Why Bears and Bats?

I often get asked why I chose to name my shop Bears and Bats Crafts. I don’t have a pet bear or bat (and neither should you, unless you work in legitimate wildlife rehabilitation…). Well, I wanted it to be whimsical. Also, it is named after an alpaca hair bear and a crocheted bat that I was sitting next to (literally, yes, they were on the couch next to me) while thinking of a name. Francisco is the bear. The bat was one I sold, and have made several more. It’s a pattern I found once and adjusted, so I’ve never named it. Maybe I should.

Also, bears and bats are both animals I have learned more about in my adult years and realized that they are pretty cool animals that humans have a lot of misconceptions about. Generally speaking, neither bears nor bats are out to get you, and would just as well be left to their own business, although bears can be quite curious in a puppy sort of way. Please do not pet any bears or bats.

Lastly, I’m a little weird. Not in a bad way I don’t think, I simply like to be myself and not just do what I’m told (yes, this has gotten me into trouble on occasion). I like animals, color, reflections, and coziness. So naturally I chose a name that does not follow the rules per se, but is still cute and something I want to embrace. I am curious by nature, though I can’t fly and don’t eat bugs.

Hopefully you don’t mind my quirks and will join me on my artist’s journey, with or without a bear or bat. :)

Welcome!

Hello everyone! Thanks for following me on my artist’s journey, and welcome to my new website! They say online presence is everything (well, someone says that I’m sure), so here I go, off on my next online adventure. Feel free to send me comments, questions, and constructive feedback as I navigate some new digital spaces and try out new products. I’m here by the people, for the people, and, let’s be real, to live out my own dreams of being a real artist. I’m not sure it makes sense, but this is what I feel I was made to do, what I have to do. It’s the only thing that feels right. So join me on these travels of exploring life, love, soul, and whatever else I stumble upon on the way. I can’t do this without you, so thanks for being part of my life, whether we talk often or you lurk in the shadows keeping tabs. I see you (but not in a creepy way), and I’m grateful.
